We left Northern VA in a blizzard — three feet of snow — and I actually paid my roommate to brave the weather and drive me to the airport in her SUV.  Everything was closed but we were determined to make this flight!  Our first flight out of Dulles was canceled because of the inclement weather, so I met John at the airport, we rented a car, and drove to Charlotte to catch another flight to Miami and then to St. Croix.  My first vacation in almost 4 years… *sigh*  🙂  Some friends of mine have a timeshare there and invited me, John, and his sisters.  We were super excited!  Little did I know that John had special plans of his own…

On Tuesday night we decided to dress up for dinner (they told me it was to celebrate an anniversary) and take some pictures outside on the beach.  I was in total work mode, snapping pictures of my friends and John’s sisters.  We were up on the balcony near the restaurant when John came up behind me, guitar in hand, and surprised me by singing a song he wrote and asking me to be his wife!  It was a perfect proposal, and I cannot wait to call him my hubby!

Here is one of the  videos we have from the proposal and the lyrics to John’s song below…  You’ll notice Eli off to the side, playing in his mom’s purse and taking an interest in everyone’s cleanliness.  He obviously didn’t realize what was going on  😀  And neither did we!  We were so focused in the moment, we didn’t hear him at all and certainly didn’t see him come up to us at the end…

There’s a hole in my head
Where the words used to live
So I’ll just pretend
That I’ve something left to give
To draw you in
To draw you in

‘Cause you take the words away
And leave me with nothing to say
The tune is all I can sing
‘Cause you take the words away

There’s a song in your sigh
Hear it calling out to me
With a power I can’t fight
Oh you barely have to breathe
To draw me in
To draw me in

‘Cause you take the words away
And leave me with nothing to say
The tune is all I can sing
‘Cause you take the words away

There’s a hole in my head
Where the words used to live
So I’ll, in their stead,
Offer all I have to give
To draw you in
To draw you in

I just returned from the Professional Photographers of America Conference and can honestly say it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve done for my business.  I learned so much! The conference was held this year in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  Sabrena Deal and I had a great road trip driving there together and meeting up with friends, Liz Cook and Jackie Miller.  We were in classes most of the day so my pictures are kinda random — mainly of the hotel.  🙂   Thanks, Stephanie, for being such an awesome host to us!  We really loved staying with you!

Brandy was one of the first people to welcome me to the area when I moved to DC over 3 years ago.  I quickly became close with her and her family; we sang on the worship team at church,  I spent most weekends at their house, and I love being “Auntie Kristen” to Catalina and Branden.  Since that time, I’ve moved three more times all around the DC area and I treasure any time I can get with this great family!  So pictures are always a great excuse.  🙂

When I met Gavin last week, he was shy at first but warmed up after only a few minutes.  He was such a joy to be around and photograph.  I absolutely love his precious toothy grin!  Here are some of my favorite shots from the day…

I first met the Taylors fourteen years ago through their daughter, Siobhan.  They moved down the street when I was in the 6th grade, and Siobhan and I rode the school bus together.  Soon after we first met (during a night of bowling and loud singing), GH & Shannon became wonderful friends and mentors in my life.  They’ve always been encouraging while challenging me to grow in my faith, leading me closer to God.  I’m so thankful for their presence in my life, and it was a privilege to take their photographs.
